Great Pootatuck Duck Race  To Give Away A Lawn Tractor

Tired of pushing the lawn mower? Have you dreamed of an upgrade?

The Newtown Lions Club is offering a Cub Cadet lawn tractor as first prize in its annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race that will be held this year on Saturday, May 28, in Sandy Hook Center.

Second prize is a weekend in New York City with theater tickets. Other prizes will include a game cube, free time at a tanning salon, free movie tickets, a family pool pass for the summer season, and dinners at area restaurants. Tickets soon will be available at the Booth Library, The Drug Center, and from any Lions members. Tickets are $5 each.

Make Porco’s newly expanded lot on Glen Road will be the site of the festival, which will be held from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be many booths staffed by representatives of community organizations and vendors. Musicians, magicians, singers, face painters, and children’s games will all be part of the event.

Promptly at 2 pm, hundreds of little rubber duckies will be dumped into the Pootatuck River from the bridge to land in the water and float down to the finish line.

Anyone who wants more information about having a free booth to present information or to sell merchandise, should call Gordon Williams at 426-6443. Other questions about the event should be directed to Jerry Cole at 426-4529.
