Golf Teams Post Victories, Including Over Joel Barlow On Tiebreakers

Newtown High School's girls' golf team earned its third win in as many matches to begin the season, highlighted by a tiebreaker victory over visiting Joel Barlow of Redding, at Rock Ridge Country Club, on May 1. Both teams scored 206, with the Nighthawks winning based on matching fifth golfer scores.

The NHS boys' golf team defeated host Barlow in a tightly contested match at Redding Country Club on April 26. Both teams scored 188, and the boys won this one via a tie-breaker. Newtown's boys' team also dropped a match to visiting Immaculate of Danbury on April 30; the Hawks shot a 179 and Immaculate had a 166. The boys joined the girls at Rock Ridge on May 1, and defeated Brookfield with a score of 171 to Brookfield's 220 to improve to 5-3 this spring. Both teams played at the same time, working different sides/holes of the course, as a result of early-season postponements because of snow, rain, and unplayable course conditions, and were treated to the warmest day of the spring to date.

In the victory over Barlow, Sarah Houle earned medalist honors with a score of 42. Camryn Findley had a 53,

In the boys' team win over Brookfield, David Brestovansky had the best score with a 39. Ryan Patrick had a 43, Tim Davis 44, Ryan Kost 45, Marc Carlson 50, and Jack Heinlein 54.

Against Barlow, Brestovansky shot a 39, Kost 47, Davis 50, and Heinlein 52, Patrick, and Carlson each had a 52.

In the loss to Immaculate, Brestovansky had a 40, Patrick and Davis each shot a 47, Kost had a 45, Davis 47, Carlson 48, and Heinlein 50.
