GIRLS C/D

 

HAWKS 3, DYNAMITES 1: All of the Hawks turned in a terrific team effort with exceptional passing and trapping. Wendy Borst and Megan Kelley saved several shots on goal and Diana Rawson tallied two of the Hawks goals. The Dynamites’ Aileen Kerns scored in the second half while supported by strong midfield help from Ginelle Gaulin-McKenzie and the tireless defense of Rachael Nicolosi.

BOYS E

 

TORNADOES 3, PANTHERS 1: Neris Halili scored two goals and Matthew Samuelson added another to lead the Tornadoes to the win. Stewart Tabler and Adam Schankman anchored the Tornado defense. For the Panthers, Michael Giglio scored with Gregory DeMenna and Kyle Hufziger supporting the offense. Steve Gardner was tenacious as goalie.

EAGLES 4, COYOTES 2: Max Paynter, Danny Lawrence, David Manville and Henry Sims all scored to lead the Eagles to the win. Kyle Kimball and Jacob Dauz played great and led the defense. For the Coyotes, the goals were scored by Steven Musco and Joe Cappiello. Harrison Gillis and Michael Daily both had great overall games as well.

GIRLS F

 

HURRICANES 4, ROCKETS 0: Megan Bridges, Bernice Bryant, Meghan Carney and Hannah Deflumeri all scored to lead the Hurricanes past the Rockets. Katie O’Dell and Caroline Lawrence played solid defense. For the Rockets, Emily Audet, Laetitia deBrantes and Madeleine Gagne had good performances.

ROADRUNNERS 5, TIGERSHARKS 1: Trevor Todd scored the lone Tigershark goal off of an assist by Andre Capozziello in a game that was much closer than the score. Outstanding goaltending by Douglas Brede kept the Tigersharks from scoring more. Kyle Moore scored the Roadrunners’ first goal and Austin Baldour (with assists from James Truckle) and Tim Dalton each added a pair of goals in the second half. Kyle McCarthy excelled on offense and Patrick Svitek played great defense for the Tigersharks.

SHARKS 2, TITANS 1: Josh Engler scored a pair of early goals to lead the Sharks to the win. Stephen Forgione also led the offense while Drew Robinson and Jordan Mathurin anchored the defense. For the Titans, Jonathan Frey scored the goal while Theo Hartlett and Conrad Normann played well.

LASERS 2, DRAGONS 1: Colin Jacob and Daniel Greenwood scored to lead the Lasers past the Dragons. Michael Shannon has a superb game in goal. For the Dragons, Nick Wolfe and Jason Marks played well on offense while Gregory Campbell had a strong game in the net.

WOLFPACK 5, ROCKETS 4: Ashwin Ramaswami had a great day, scoring four goals, to lead the Wolfpack. Marc Bonacci added the other goal. Zack Baudisch was also strong on offense and Chad Cullens and George Delia anchored the defense. For the Rockets, Besart Behluli scored a pair of goals while Joshua Zimmermann and Henry Helgren also scored.  Richard Andreotta played a great game and R.J. Roman did a great job in goal.

WOLVERINES 2, FLYING PIZZAS 1: Joshua Muniz and Daniel Hufziger scored to lift the Wolverines to the win. Sam Spiegel played well. For the Pizzas, Alex Neufeld scored the lone goal while Andy Hsu and Andrew Bleidner played well.

BOYS U10

 

NIGHTMARE 3, BROOKFIELD 0: This was another solid team effort. Andrew Meisel, Connor Collier, and Conor MacManus scored for the winners, assisted by Ethan Carotti and Daniel Kowarick. Kurt Nacewicz and Ryan Goodridge kept the offense moving, while Chris Marks and John Gouveia played well defensively for the Nightmare. Jason Kostecki and Daniel Quinn had strong games in goal.

FAIRFIELD 5, NAVIGATORS 1: Rachel Maley scored the lone ‘Gator goal. Julie Landin and Jackie Schulz had solid games.

NAVIGATORS 5, NEW FAIRFIELD 1: Claire Ober and Eva Cerreta scored two goals apiece and Rachel Maley added a solo to lead the Navigators to the win.

NAVIGATORS 0, ROCKVILLE CENTER 0: In a closely-played game, the defenses ruled. Bethany Morin plaued well in goal for the ‘Gators, while Jackie Petrasanta and Laura Konkos shined in the field.

NAVIGATORS 2, GRANBY 1: Jackie Schulz and Claire Ober scored the goals that lifted the ‘Gators to the win. Alan Bilangi, Carolyn Kraich, Maggie Kimball and Harriet Morgan all had good games.

BOYS U11

 

VIPERS 3, NEW MILFORD 0: Within the opening minutes of the New Milford Game the Viper attack hit the crossbar three times, the far post twice and the near post once before they finally found the nylon. Anthony Florez scored midway through the half giving the Vipers the 1-0 lead. With only 11 players Newtown’s energy did not diminish in the second half. Sparked by strong defense by Kevin Davies and smooth ball movement in midfield with Drew Taylor and Justin Miller maintaining possession for Newtown. Paul Andras and Miller both netted second half balls with great play from Nick Kallivrousis and Max Hoagland on the wings.

VIPERS 2, DANBURY 0: The Vipers recorded their 6th shutout in Northwest Division play with a 2-0 win. Jason Smith and Alex Bowen shared time in goal with Chris Meier, Mat DeBrantes and Chris Schreiber creating an impenetrable defense. J. Smith also netted the Viper second goal late in the second half while the only other scoring came from Kevin Troy in the first half. Drew Taylor and Danny Smith controlled the pace of the match with great midfield play along with Ethan Canfield who made several strong runs on the outside.

VIPERS 7, BROOKFIELD (State Cup): The Vipers advanced into the semi-final round of the U-11 State Cup Tournament with a convincing win. Anthony Florez began the scoring with an early Newtown goal but the Bobcats rallied back with two of their own to take a 2-1 lead. With only second left in the first half Kevin Davies place the tying ball into the net for the Vipers. The momentum changed quickly in Newtown’s favor as Justin Miller and Kevin Troy both netted balls for Newtown within the first six minutes of play in the second half. Danny Smith was rock solid in goal for the Vipers and even stopped a PK taken by Brookfield. Miller, Florez, and Alex Bowen all added scores as Newtown ran their tally up to seven.

GIRLS U12

 

NITROS 7, TORRINGTON 1: Erica Vacaro scored the hat trick, scoring three goals for Newtown in the first half alone. Rose Jackman added two scores of her own, and solo shots were fired by Lindsay Weber and Meredith Palo in the rain-shortened match. Sarah Gutbrod and Jennifer Greenwood handled the goal-tending duties, turning back Torrington at every opportunity.

Southington Tournament

The Newtown Rage competed in the 22nd Southington Invitational Tournament this weekend and emerged as the U-12 champions. The Rage went 4-0, scoring 22 goals while only giving up three.

RAGE 8, COGINCHAUG 0: Eric Macknight scored twice and assisted twice in leading Newtown. Joe Rahtelli had a hat trick while Tyler Bigham scored twice and Jack Quinn netted one goal. Ross MacLeod had two assists with Justin Durelli and Michael Kennedy also providing assists.

RAGE 9, DERBY 0: Michael Kennedy, Jack Quinn and Joe Rahtelli each scored twice while Brian Conroy, Justin Durelli and Matt Norris added solo goals. Nick Sando had two assists with Ross MacLeod also assisting on a score. Matt Boland, Mark Cinquegrana , Aron Fay and Billy McCann shut down the Derby offensive attack.

RAGE 3, NAUGATUCK 2: In a battle of unbeatens within bracket play Newtown emerged on top. The Rage gave up two quick goals in the first five minutes of the contest and went into the half down, 2-0. The second half was a different story. Joe Rahtelli scored in the 11th minute off of a rebound shot from Michael Klein and Newtown was within one. Four minutes later Michael Klein beat the Naugatuck goalie and the score was tied. The Rage kept up the offensive pressure and Brian Conroy just missed putting them ahead with shots just over the crossbar. With one minute remaining, and penalty kicks looming, Michael Kennedy sent a crossing shot from the right corner that Joe Rahtelli re-directed into the goal for the winning score.

RAGE 2, BROOKFIELD 1: Newtown met arch rival Brookfield in the championship game. Brookfield came out strong and netted a quick goal three minutes into the game. Newtown played defensive in the first half and goalie Steve Marks was forced to make several good saves. Marks ended this game with 14 saves. Matt Boland, Aron Fay., Billy McCann and Chris Nuelle played strong defense for the Rage. However once again Newtown found themselves down at half-time, 1-0. The Rage stepped up the offensive pressure in the second half. Brian Conroy just missed with several direct kicks. Finally, in the 22nd minute, Joe Rahtelli, assisted by Jack Quinn, beat the Brookfield goalie for the equalizer. With one minute remaining Newtown was awarded a direct kick just outside of the penalty area. Michael Kennedy scored into the upper right corner and Newtown was the champions of the tournament.

Regular Season

RAGE 5, SHEPAUG 0: Newton overcame a sluggish start to overpower Shepaug. Chris Nuelle scored twice to lead the Rage. Brian Conroy, Jack Quinn and Joe Rahtelli also scored for the Rage. Jack Quinn, Matt Norris and Ross MacLeod assisted on the goals. Eric Macknight supplied offensive pressure with Nick Sando and Matt Boland playing well in the midfield.

GIRLS U13

 

ROCKETS 3, FARMINGTON 1 (State Cup): The Rockets move on to the semi-finals for the State Cup. The fast-paced game against a psyched Farmington team was no cake walk. The first half was scoreless. Newtown had opportunities on goal but the Farmington defense held strong. In the second half, Farmington put one past Newtown’s keeper Tori Thomas. That seemed to jolt the Rockets into an all out offensive. Tara Gaston scored the first goal for the Rockets. Mary Anders then scored twice. The Newtown offense with Siobhan Cooper and Alex Konneker never let up. Caitlin Hansen, Casey Frobey and Mary Ober kept the momentum in the midfield. Elyssa Samsel anchored the defense along with Erin Clark and Emily Fields. Tori Thomas denied Farmington any more attempts on goal.

ROCKETS 8, BERKSHIRE UNITED 1: Tori Thomas, Casey Frobey and Mary Anders shared goalie duties in the win over B.U. Siobhan Cooper and Mary Anders scored a hat trick apiece, with an assist by Casey Frobey. Erin Clark put one in with an assist by Caitlin Hansen. Megan Rawson also scored. Erin Clark, Elyssa Samsel and Tara Gaston powered the offense in the second half.
