Newtown High School's girls' basketball team will visit Ridgefield in the Class LL state tournament's first round on Saturday, February 27, beginning at 5 pm (the game time was changed after print deadline; it was originally announced as a 7 pm start, as published in the February 26 edition of The Bee).

The Nighthawks, 11-9 overall, are seeded 20th in the 32-team bracket; Ridgefield (15-5) is the No. 13 seed. The winner of this game will face either fourth-seeded Stamford or No. 29 Ledyard in the second round.

Newtown was beaten by Pomperaug of Southbury in the South-West Conference tourney quarterfinals, and Ridgefield was beaten by Fairfield Warde in the FCIAC tourney semifinals.
