Gaynor Breaks His Own Record As Swimming And Diving Team Defeats New Milford

Newtown High School's boys' swimming and diving team defeated host New Milford 88-68, at the Canterbury School pool, on January 20. Diver Kyle Gaynor broke the school record, which he previously held, with a score of 303. The Nighthawk swimmers also had the fastest times in each event.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Peter Fagerholm, Ian Peng, Mason Suba, and Jack Wojtowicz was first (time not reported).

In the 200 freestyle race, Tommy Horan was first in a time of 1:53.46, and David Lawrence was second in 1:57.90. Dawson Stout won the 200 individual medley event, clocking in at 2:02.50, and Michael Annesley was runner-up in 2:13.81. Suba took the top spot in the 50 free, sprinting to the finish in 23.52, and Xavier Williams was second in 24.45.

After the diving break, Suba won the 100 butterfly event, making his final touch in 57.70, and Annesley was next in 58.26. Williams claimed the top spot in the 100 free with a time of 55.26. Wojtowicz edged out teammate Rick Irving as the Nighthawks finished with times of 58.46 and 59.69. The 500 freestyle race was won by Fagerholm in 5:02.95, and Lawrence was second in 5:26.25.

In the 200 free relay event, Williams, Irving, Annesley, and Horan was tops with a time of 1:36.64.

Stout won the 100 backstroke race, finishing in 57.28, and Mike Yu was second in 1:05.95. Horan and Peng took the top spots in the 100 breaststroke race, with times of 1:09.70 and 1:10.09.

The best time in the 400 relay came from Lawrence, Colby Delia, Stout, and Fagerholm, in 4:02.46.

Newtown's meet against visiting Bethel, originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, has been moved to Wednesday, January 25, because of weather conditions closing schools for the day. The meet will begin at 5:30 pm.
