The Museum in the Streets project, which aims to create a small, historic walking tour in Sandy Hook, received a boost on January 12. The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) hosted a wine tasting that evening at Nick's Chilled and Distilled, joined by Chef Jay Daly. Ninety Plus Cellars provided the food and wines.Julie@efriendmarketing.com or visit sandyhookvillage.com.

Pleased with the turnout, SHOP President Joe Hemingway said, "The event raised a good amount toward the total goal of $15,000."

SHOP is working with the Maine-based Museum in the Streets and Newtown Historical Society to create a self-guided walking tour through Sandy Hook, which will include plaques in various locations. Visitors will be invited to follow a sign-posted route, with accompanying essays to discover the community history.

Newtown Savings bank has donated seed money for this project.

SHOP has been instrumental in supporting the Sandy Hook community and business district by implementing ongoing revitalization, marketing, business growth, philanthropy, advocacy, and cultural arts initiatives since the 1980s. The group's mission is to promote Sandy Hook as a family friendly, pedestrian-oriented community. The SHOP Board is made up of local Sandy Hook residents, storefront property owners, as well as local business owners.
