Edmond Town Hall Theatre, at 45 Main Street, will be offering two free screenings of the recent family friendly film The BFG on Saturday, August 13.

Both screenings - at 10 am and 7 pm - are being sponsored by Ingersoll Auto of Danbury.

In this adventure-family-fantasy film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on a story by Roald Dahl, a girl named Sophie encounters a Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kind-hearted soul who is an outcast by other giants because, unlike them, he refuses to eat children.

The BFG is rated PG and it has a running time of 117 minutes. It stars Ruby Barnhill as Sophie, and also features the vocal talents of Mark Rylance, Penelope Wilton, Bill Hadar, Rebecca Hall, and Jemaine Clement.

The morning screening on Saturday will be for audiences with sensory sensitivity.

"The environment in the theater will be changed to accommodate those with sensory sensitivities," said Anna Wiedemann, vice chairman of the town hall's board of managers. "The lights will be on, the sound will be softer, and audience members will be able to move around, talk, dance, or sing during the movie."

Sensory friendly shows provide a more comfortable and accepting environment for those who are on the autism spectrum, making it possible for families to enjoy a movie out without concerns about disturbing other audience members. The concession stand will be open and gluten-free and peanut-free snacks will be available, but moviegoers are welcome to bring appropriate snacks to suit their health needs.

Todd Ingersoll, the owner of Ingersoll Auto of Danbury, said he is pleased to be able to offer the additional screening this weekend.

"We're delighted to offer an additional free show to members of the community who may find it difficult to attend our regularly sponsored free show," said Mr Ingersoll, who lives in Newtown and has been a longtime supporter of Edmond Town Hall.

The auto dealership and service center has been offering at least one free movie screening in the town's movie theater since January 2013. The offer is first come, first served.

The BFG will be at ETH Theatre August 12-18. Daily screenings are scheduled for 1, 4, 7 and 9:05 pm. Regular movie tickets are $2 each.
