Four Artists’ Work Featured At White Silo

SHERMAN — A group show featuring artists Marsha Doran of Roxbury, Sonja Kalter Glassman of Canada, Michael Kern of Oakville, and Nathan Meyer of New Milford, will be presented at White Silo Winery and Gallery on Route 37.

The artists will be showing a range of work from figure paintings and landscapes to monoprints and wood sculpture.

The show runs from June 26 through July 11. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, June 27, from 1 to 3 pm. The public is invited to attend.

Marsha Doran received her bachelor’s degree in studio arts/painting with honors from Western Connecticut State University. In 1999 she received her master’s degree of fine arts in painting from Boston University.

Miss Doran paints and draws figures from direct observation. She works in a variety of mediums ranging from oils, watercolors, and pencil, focusing on the curves of the body. She fills the rest of her time teaching art at the high school and college level. She is currently teaching at Tunxis Community College in Farmington and Canterbury School in New Milford.

Sonja Kalter Glassman, born in Germany, has studied art for many years. She began studying art at Music and Art High School in Jackson Heights, N.Y. She also studied at Cooper Union Art School, majoring in graphics. Her education continued at San Francisco Art Institute, where she received her BFA. Currently she produces paintings and graphics full-time.

Michael Kern, a self-taught artist, carves found pieces of wood into beautiful, useful sculptures. Unique by Nature, his collection of unique yet functional bowls, lean more towards works of art than utility pieces.

Nathan Meyer graduated summa cum laude from Western CT State University this year with a bachelor’s degree in studio arts/painting. He works from direct observation to create his work, whether the subject matter be the landscape or human figure.

Mr Meyer has experimented with numerous media, including painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Working within the sculptural realm, he created a site-specific mobile to someday hang in the Student Center at WCSU. After graduating, Mr Meyer will apply his arts education to his job in antique furniture restoration, a job he has held for six years with Oakley Restoration in New Milford.

The winery and gallery, at 32 Route 37, is open Friday through Sunday from 11 am until 5 pm; telephone 860-355-0271.
