Newtown High School's field hockey team came from behind for a 4-3 overtime win at South-West Conference rival Joel Barlow of Redding on September 27.

Hana Rosenthal scored the winner on a setup by Ali Kelleher, who drew the goaltender and defender to her and dished the ball across to Rosenthal to do the rest. A long run by Rylee Harrell led to the decisive tally.

The Nighthawks trailed 3-1 late in regulation but scored twice in the final six minutes to force extra time. Harrell and Jordan Stofko each scored to spark the comeback.

Emma Schmid-Tharnish had Newtown's first goal, in the opening half.

The Nighthawks nearly overcame a 3-0 deficit at Masuk of Monroe the night before, ultimately falling 3-2.

Newtown is 3-3 heading into a stretch of four consecutive home games, beginning with a Friday, September 29 battle with Nonnewaug at Blue & Gold Stadium, beginning at 3:45 pm. The Hawks will host Bethel, also at Blue & Gold, on Tuesday, October 3, starting at 6:30 pm.

Brookfield visits Treadwell Park on Thursday, October 5, at 4 pm. Trumbull comes to Blue & Gold on Saturday, October 7, for a 6 pm contest.
