A family-oriented day of fun, organized by a charity designed to bring emotional and financial support for the police officers who responded to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, will be held Saturday, June 1, from 10 am to 3 pm. Family Fun Day will be at Dickinson Park, on Elm Drive.

In addition to food that will be available for purchase, activities will include a K9 demonstration, students at Dance Dimensions will be showing off some of their moves, and children will have the opportunity to get close to an ambulance, motorcycle, and police car.

Music will be provided by The Other Band, and a when they are not playing a DJ will be spinning tunes. Art projects will be available for children and they can burn off some energy in a moon bounce. Jugglers will also be strolling through the crowd.

Members of the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will be there to take family or individual portraits.

Former New York Giants running back Joe Morris will be there from 1 to 2 pm to sign autographs, take pictures, and answer questions from young football fans about the best way to play the game.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children age 15 and younger, and free for children younger than 3 years old. All proceeds go to the Newtown Police Department Union Fund.

Adopt A Cop started as a Facebook page, which was created soon after 12/14. Since then Adopt A Cop has sold ribbons, bracelets, and magnets to raise funds for the Newtown Police Department Police Union Fund. Organizers have created and continue to work on filling the fund to continue to assist the officers who needed, or continue to need, time off following 12/14.

“To date, we have donated $31,000 to the Newtown PD Union Fund and we are continuing our fundraising efforts until the need no longer exists,” said Linda B. Antignani, organizer of the Adopt A Sandy Hook/Newtown Cop Program.

The event is at the park pavilion and will be held rain or shine.
