Police report they received a 911 call about 7:22 pm on July 19 from a motorist who was traveling near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Paugussett Road, who informed them that a light blue BMW in that area was being driven erratically.

The witness told police that she had been following the BMW driver westward since Stevenson Dam, adding that the BMW was traveling both on the road and off the road, and had almost struck a motorcyclist head-on.

The woman continued following the auto, providing police with updated information on the BMW's location, police said. Also, the witness said that the BMW was traveling slowly on the wrong side of the road. The witness then was able to provide police with a marker plate number for identification of the BMW.

The BMW turned left from Berkshire Road onto Wasserman Way and turned left again onto the Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84, where police stopped the driver.

After investigating, police charged motorist James Tillman, 23, of Branford, with driving under the influence, possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, possession of illegal drugs with intent to sell, and failure to keep prescription drugs in their original container.

After arrest processing, police released Tillman on $400 bail for an August 2 court appearance.
