Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps will host an EMT-Basic (Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Level) course this fall.

All ages are welcome, although students must be at least age 16 by the completion of the course. Classes will run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from September 1 until December 15. Classes will meet 6 to 10 pm, plus two Saturdays each month, for a total of approximately 150 total hours.

The course will be held at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road.

This is a State of Connecticut-approved training course for EMT-Basic certification. The course includes classroom lectures, practical training, CPR certification, emergency room observation, patient assessment for injury and illness, treatment of medical conditions and injury-related events, lifting and moving techniques, medical documentation, and emergency medical services operations.

Upon completion of the course material and classroom sessions, students will sit for an approved State of Connecticut written and practical test. An additional fee may be required for testing.

Cost for the course is $550, which includes textbook, test preparation material, stethoscope, and blood pressure cuff.
