Eagle Scout Project Helps ‘Make A Home’

Adam Wruck recently completed his Eagle Scout project at the Make A Home Foundation, 80 High Bridge Road, by constructing clothing racks for the facility.

“I felt like I really wanted to leave my mark, and this foundation helps people who are homeless veterans or people who have fallen on hard times,” said Adam before completing the work on the clothing racks.

Make A Home Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides free furniture, appliances, clothing, and other items to Connecticut veterans, families, and individuals who are homeless, either due to temporary circumstances or on-going problems.

Eagle Scout projects, Adam said, must be completed by the time a scout turns 18 and must involve doing something for the community.

When it came time to pick a project, a number of ideas and possible projects were considered, Adam said.

“Make A Home doesn’t have any clothing racks, so we decided that might be a good project idea,” said Adam.

He then visited the facility in mid-December and met with Make A Home Foundation volunteer Robin Buchanan.

Adam completed his project over the first weekend in February. The foundation, Adam said, supplied the wood and piping used for the project.

“We thought building a clothing section would vastly improve people’s experiences when they are there,” said Adam.

Without the clothing racks, Adam said the collection was in disarray. With the racks, Adam said he hopes his project will help people look through for clothes with more ease.
