Dr. Summerer Named To St. Vincentâs Post
Mike H. Summerer, MD, formerly of Kalamazoo, Mich., and now residing in Newtown, has been named senior vice president of medical affairs at St Vincentâs Medical Center.
Dr Summerer previously was senior vice president and chief medical officer of Bronson Healthcare Group, a system comprised of two hospitals, an insurance company, and two dozen health-related entities in Kalamazoo.
Dr Summerer succeeds John J. Lawrence, MD, who retired after serving in this position for 12 years. As senior vice president for medical affairs, Dr Summerer is responsible for maintaining the quality of medical care provided by St Vincentâs and its affiliates and for advancements in clinical services provided by St Vincentâs Medical Center, Hall-Brooke Hospital, and other related entities.
Dr Summerer attending the University of Connecticut where he earned his bachelorâs degree with honors in physics in 1973. He continued at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, earning his medical degree in 1977. He performed his residency in internal medicine at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio, and fellowship studies in cardiovascular disease at Indiana University Medical Center. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, earning a masterâs degree in administrative medicine in 1995. Dr Summerer is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases, and earned certification as physician executive in 1999.
Two other executive appointments also were announced. Andrew H. Banoff of Trumbull has been named senior vice president of St Vincentâs Health Services. Previously he was president and chief executive officer of Connecticut Health Enterprises, a health care services delivery company for physicians, hospitals, and ancillary providers, which is owned by St Vincentâs and other health systems.
Robert J. Dubicki of Cleveland, Ohio, was appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer of St Vincentâs Medical Center. He had been senior vice president, ambulatory center development, for University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland. He is relocating to Westport.
