The Newtown International Center for Education (NICE) hosted a delegation of students and educators from IES Las Encinas School in Sevilla, Spain, March 28 to April 5.People interested in supporting NICE or becoming a host family can e-mail Ms Filiato at .cathyfiliato@gmail.com

The visitors stayed with host families during their time in Newtown, and the students participated in a range of activities.

After arriving, parent volunteers provided food for a welcome ceremony at Newtown High School. Students shadowed NHS students throughout the visit, and they were welcomed to NHS on March 29.

The delegation also went on day trips, visiting New York City on March 30 and Yale University in New Haven on April 5, before leaving.

The delegation also visited Newtown Middle School and attended local events, including junior prom on March 31. After school on April 3, NHS teachers Eric Ekman and Suzanne von Oy oversaw a lesson on swing dancing.

A farewell ceremony was held on April 4.

"Everything was great," NICE Spain Program Manager Liz Ward said about the visit. The students, she added, enjoyed taking an art class and had time to speak with upper grade level students at NHS during the visit.

NICE Parent & Community Organization (NICE PCO) President Cathy Filiato thanked all of the families who hosted delegation members and supported NICE. NICE PCO Secretary Heather Smith added that NICE is always looking for host families for future delegation visits.
