ON THE ROAD FOR MAY 30
SPONGE has a new area date, at The Webster in Hartford on June 16, which
stinks because that's a Monday night. What stinks even worse is there doesn't
seem to be anything on Tuxedo Junction's schedule for a Danbury date by the
band, which I am waiting for. You know, it's tough enough to drive up to
Hartford on a week night, but on a Monday? Forget it!!! The Rev Horton Heat
opens the June 16 date.
Speaking of Tuxedo Junction, the club has sent over its June listing and the
month looks like quite the plethora of styles. MOTORHEAD and WASP play a
double bill June 8, with Impotent Sea Snakes opening. Tickets are $15 in
advance, $17 at the door. FROM GOOD HOMES and MIGHTY PURPLE will be in Danbury
for an all-ages show June 12; tickets are $8. Another all-ages show, SPRING
HEELED JACK will be on stage June 15. Tickets are $8 for this show, and it
will start around 7.
The following night, HATEBREED headlines a bill with One King Down and
Drowning Room opening. All ages show, 7 pm start, tickets $7. WISHBONE ASH
headline, with Spontaneous Combustion opening, on June 16; again, 7 pm & $7.
And here's an irony: DIO plays Sunday, June 22, with an opening band called My
Dying Bridge. In Dio's case, maybe the opener could be called My Dying Career
. Interestingly, this is more than a week after Dio plays at the Webster in
Hartford (June 14); usually these shows are within one or two days. Doors in
Danbury open at 8, tickets are $15 in advance or $17 at the door for that one.
And hey!... look who is playing one of the final shows of the month: Newtown's
ELECTRICWATER. The foursome will be at Tuxedo Junction on Saturday, June 28,
in the opening slot for a Belly Button show.
The first annual ROAR TOUR will roar into Connecticut next month. The 40-city
tour, an acronym for "Revelation of Alternative Rhythms," will be in
Middletown for the Orange County Fair on Friday, June 20.
Along with being another local date for my band of bands (SPONGE), The Roar
Tour will also bring along IGGY POP, THE REVEREND HORTON HEAT, TONIC,
BLOODHOUND GANG, LINDA PERRY, RYAN DOWNE and TREADMILL TRACKSTAR. Trackstar,
you may recall, is a band out of South Carolina with former Newtowner and
musician Angelo Gianni. The festival is a day-long event, "an entire day of
high voltage music," with multi-media interactive activities in what is called
The Lifestyles Experience Village.
And finally this week, some more shows coming to the Meadows Music Theatre in
Hartford. Tickets for all three of these shows will be going on sale Saturday
morning, at the Meadows box office, all Strawberries Music & Video stores, or
Pro-Tix (860/422-0000).
On Saturday, July 22, will be ZZ TOP, with KANSAS opening. Tickets are $18 for
lawn, $28 within the pavilion, and $40.50 for Gold Circle. On Saturday, August
9, AEROSMITH returns to Connecticut. All lawn seats are $25.50; all seats are
$40.50. And BRYAN ADAMS returns to the state for the first time in five years
on Friday, August 22. Tickets for his show, with no opener as yet announced,
are $20.50 for lawn, $28 pavilion, and $38 Gold Circle.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
