ON THE ROAD FOR MARCH 21

Congratulations to Greg McWilliam, Adam Solinas, Grady McAuliffe and Fred

Dotson, all of Newtown and otherwise known these days as MIND TYDES... These

guys were the winners last Thursday of Radio 104's Modern Rock Wars! The

station has spent a lot of air time during the last two months promoting this

venture, first by encouraging bands to join the competition and then by

encouraging us, the listeners, to come out and cheer these bands on at The

Russian Lady in Hartford.

Mind Tydes, a modern rock band, blew away their competition in the first round

of playing last month, and then on Thursday they did it again, earning

themselves a spot at this summer's Radio 104 Big Day Off, to be in June at

Riverside Amusement Park in Massachusetts. They've also won a day of recording

time at a studio. Read on elsewhere for the details, but be sure to give any

of these four some Congratulations the next time you run in to them, and be

sure to make plans to get up to the Big Day Off once the date is announced.

And speaking of Radio 104, the station will also repeat its celebration of

Earth Day this year with Radio 104 Earth Day in the Park, planned for April 20

at Bushnell Park in Hartford. Bands appearing are yet to be announced, but the

day-long festival follows the general format of all Radio 104 events: A lot of

fun, to be sure.

Start making your summer plans. I know it's early, and it doesn't feel much

like spring yet, but that doesn't matter.

Not to Parrot Heads, anyway, who have our date already for this year's return

by our king. JIMMY BUFFETT is the first show to be announced for the Meadows

Music Theatre's 1997 summer schedule. He will be in Hartford on August 27,

which is a Wednesday. Tickets go on sale Saturday morning.

For MARILYN MANSON, however, tickets aren't being put on sale yet, but a date

has been released for a Meadows show: May 7. This summer, Manson will be

touring as an opener with OZZY OSBOURNE, but this is your chance to see these

boys running the show.

The younger Dylan musician may not be visiting us anytime too soon (that would

be Jakob and his band, THE WALLFLOWERS), but dad BOB DYLAN will be at the

University of Hartford April 19. Tickets for this show go on sale next

Saturday (March 28), at $25 and $35 each. No opener has been announced yet.

The MICHAEL FLATLEY/LORD OF THE DANCE shows at the Meadows Music Theatre will

be a rare event for the venue: A two-night stand by a performing troupe.

Barney has been there in the past for a few nights at once, as was STOMP last

summer, but it is a rarity to have more than one opportunity for such

entertainment. Tickets were going to be on sale Monday morning for the April

24-25 shows - Irish dancers, St. Patrick's Day... I saw the connection - but

have been postponed to go on sale until Friday morning (March 21) now.

Not that it's looking tooooo far into the future, but if you want the chance

to check out Flatley's competition - the original "RIVERDANCE" group - the

incredibly entertaining dancers are scheduled to be at the Oakdale in

Wallingford December 11-21. No tickets for months on that, however.

As usual, a few new additions for Toad's Place in New Haven: SOUL ASYLUM,

April 14; and DINOSAUR JR, April 21.

Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
