CWU Planning World Day Of Prayer

The Newtown-Bethel chapter of Church Women United (CWU) is planning a World Day of Prayer service for Friday, March 3, at 1 pm. It will be at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, and all are welcome.

World Day of Prayer is an international event that unites Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women and men in over 170 countries in prayer. The theme of this year’s WDP service, which was written by women in South Africa, is “Signs of The Times.”

The Reverend Janice Touloukina, associate minister at Newtown Congregational Church, and Reverend Lee Moore, interim minister at NCC, will be participating. Members of CWU/Newtown-Bethel will also participate in presenting the service.

The service will include hymns Scripture readings, an offering and a collection for CWU’s Fellowship of The Least Coin, and a presentation by Peace Corp volunteer Laura Hickey. Ms Hickey will talk about the HIV/AIDS situation in Zambia and in the southern region of Africa.

She will also discuss her experiences as a Peace Corp volunteer. The Newtown High School graduate (’96) served as a community health educator for more than 2½ years, and then served as a technical trainer for the first group of HIV/AIDS Peace Corp volunteers hosted in Zambia.

There will be an offering collected during the service. Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable donation to be given to FAITH Food Pantry.

For additional information contact the NCC church office, 426-9024.
