CWU Bible Retreat September 5

Church Women United/Newtown-Bethel (CWU) will host its annual Bible retreat on Friday, September 5. The event is traditionally a preparation for World Community Day later in the fall (this year on November 7), and is open to everyone whether they plan to attend the second event or not. There is no charge to attend.

This year’s retreat will be hosted by The Homesteads of Newtown, 166 Mt Pleasant Road (Route 6).

The event will again be led by Linda Taylor.

The program will open with a short CWU business meeting, and then continue with a prayerful study led by Ms Taylor and a discussion of the World Community Day Celebration being planned for November. “Circles of Love” will be the theme of November’s celebration.

Those attending the retreat should bring a Bible and sandwich; desserts and beverages will be available.

Linda Taylor, a member of Newtown Congregational Church, will be using portions of John (4:7-16), Corinthians (13:1-13) and Luke (6:27-36) in leading the retreat toward the monotheistic worldview that is written in the planning guide provided by the National Office of the Church Women United movement.

Ms Taylor is an experienced retreat leader, having led a retreat in 2001 that focused on setting aside grievances, slowing down, reflecting, and thinking about global responsibilities, along with the 2002 Bible retreat for CWU. She has led Bible studies and has been a deacon, past member of the personnel and long-range planning committees and is currently chairperson of the ushers committee at the local church. She is a senior sales and service representative at Fleet Bank in Newtown.

Contact CWU/Newtown-Bethel co-president Jeane Roberts (426-9707) for more information.

World Community Day will celebrate its 60th anniversary in November.
