Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo Announces Events For All Ages Coming Up In June

BRIDGEPORT — Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo has announced its June events, which take place at the zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue.

Regular zoo admission is $9 for adults, $7 for children ages 3-11 and seniors, and free to members of the Connecticut Zoological Society. Unless noted, the following events are included with paid admission.

*Saturday, June 3, from 1 to 4 pm – Zoo Crew: This monthly hands-on educational program held May through October offers teens ages 13-16 an in-depth exploration of animals, conservation and environmental careers.

In the June session, teens will hear about “Constellations and Zoo Animals” as they learn how many animals are featured in the sky and explore constellations and the myths that surround them.

Cost is $35. Registration, including pre-payment, is due at least one week in advance by calling the Zoo’s Education Department at 203-394-6563.

*Sunday, June 4, noon to 3 pm – Wildflower Safari: Join staff members for crafts and other flower-related activities.

Plant the seeds of knowledge about beautiful flora.               

 *Thursday, June 8, 6 to 9 pm – Members’ Night: This special event devoted to Connecticut Zoological Society members will feature music, face painting, rides, food, crafts, and of course, the zoo’s wonderful animals.

Cost is $20 per family (current Connecticut Zoological Society card required) and $10 for each additional guest.

*Saturday, June 10, 2 pm – Adult Lecture Series, in the zoo’s Hanson Exploration Station.

*Sunday, June 18, 9 am to 4 pm – Father’s Day. Free admission for all those dedicated dads who are accompanied by their (paying) families.

*Saturday, June 24, 2 pm – The Zoo’s Adult Lecture Series will present “Magical Meso-American Flora and Fauna” by zoo docent Melinda Karwon, in the zoo’s Hanson Exploration Station.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is open year-round and exhibits primarily North and South American animals, including many endangered and threatened species. Highlights include a Tropical Rainforest, New England Farmyard, Alligator Alley aviary, Carousel, and Victorian Greenhouse. The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a leader in global wildlife conservation, and a link to helping animals in their native habitats.
