From Monday, November 20 through Monday, November 27, town police will heighten their enforcement of seatbelt use compliance through their annual fall "Click-it or Ticket" campaign, according to Administrative Sergeant Jeff Silver, who heads the Newtown Police Department's traffic unit.

The project employs intense seatbelt enforcement during a heavy travel period near Thanksgiving. It is coupled with advertising and publicity which promote seatbelt compliance.

"With the Thanksgiving weekend approaching, Newtown law enforcement personnel, in an effort to promote safe driving and increase the protection of all motorists, will be actively looking for those motorists who choose not to wear their seatbelts, and will be issuing citations to those who are found unbuckled," Sgt Silver said.

Seatbelts can only save lives if they are used, note police.
