Champagne, Josée Vachon, And Café-Conversation

Alliance Française of Northwestern Connecticut has a special holiday program and a regular Café-Conversation planned for December, both open to the public.

On Saturday, December 6, join club members in celebrating the season with lunch, champagne and a performance by the musician Josée Vachon. The full celebration will run from 11:30 am until 3 pm at St Margaret’s-McTernan School, 565 Chase Parkway in Waterbury, and attendees have the option of enjoying lunch and the performance, just lunch, or just the performance.

Lunch will include pea soup with croutons, traditional Canadian meat pies, a selection of cheeses, pâtés, fruit and vegetables, ending with cream puffs, strawberries and bûche de Noël cake. Lunch is $26 for non-members, $12 for students, and $5 for children ages 11 and under.

Tickets for the concert are $10, and the performance will begin at 1:30.

Born in Quebec and raised in Maine, Josée Vachon shares her Franco-American culture through traditional and contemporary folksongs from Quebec and Acadie as well as original songs. Her warm, distinct voice accompanied by the guitar and occasional piano, unrelenting foot percussion and spoons, as well as her engaging personality have captured the hearts of many audiences throughout New England and Canada.

Club members promise a PhD in French is not necessary to participate in the lively event.

Checks should be made payable to The Alliance Française of Northwestern CT and mailed as soon as possible to PO Box 31, Woodbury CT 06798-0031.

The club’s regular Café-Conversation will be held Saturday, December 20, from 10 am to noon. It will be at Southbury Public Library, 561 Main Street South/Route 6 in Southbury. Join members who will be reading and speaking French, or simply sit in and listen to the conversations, in a friendly environment. All are welcome; light snacks and coffee are welcome.

Additional on the club and its activities is available from 203-263-4096 or afnwct@snet.net.
