The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have an oil painting demonstration by the nationally known artist Kathy Anderson at its next meeting.
SCAN will be meeting in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street, on Wednesday, June 27, at 1:30 pm. The public is invited, free of charge.
Kathy Anderson has earned certification as a Master Signature Member of Oil Painters of America.
She is additionally a signature member of Oil Painters of America and Allied Artists, and she is an elected artist member of the Salmagundi Club and National Arts Club, where her work is in the permanent collection.
Ms Anderson is a frequent award winner, recently winning the first prize in the Salmagundi Club still life show in February 2017 and the President’s Award at the National Arts Club members’ exhibition the following month.
She also recently won third prize at the National Arts Club annual exhibiting artists show.
Ms Anderson is best known for her garden landscapes and floral still life, although she is well versed in many other subjects. In 2001, she had the good fortune to meet renowned artist Richard Schmid when he purchased one of her paintings. The meeting resulted in her being invited to join the Putney Painters under Schmid’s tutelage.
For the past 15 years, she has traveled to Vermont several times a month to paint with Mr Schmid as well as Nancy Guzik and her fellow Putney Painters. Ms Anderson now passes the knowledge she has gained from this long association and friendship to the many students she has taught in workshops throughout the country.
She is represented by Susan Powell Fine Art in Madison; Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Westwind Fine Art, Colorado Springs; Horton Hayes in Charleston, S.C.; and Trees Place on Cape Cod.
