To the Editor:

I find myself in the unusual position of endorsing a candidate for Lieutenant Governor not because I know her better, or am friendlier with her, but because I firmly believe she is the most qualified person. That person is Susan Bysiewicz.

I urge my fellow Democrats to vote for the person most qualified to do the job and step in if for some reason the Governor cannot continue. We should not take that possibility lightly, as three of the last nine Connecticut governors first became Governor due to the death or resignation of the incumbent.

Susan Bysiewicz, the convention-endorsed candidate by a wide margin, is by any measure the most qualified candidate seeking to be our next Lt Governor. After three terms as State Representative and Legislative Committee Chair, Susan served for 12 years as a popular Secretary of the State with well over 60 percent of the vote in her last two elections. In that capacity, she managed a large department in state government. As our chief election official, she modernized our voting system to one of the safest and most accurate in the country. As Secretary of the State, Susan also had the responsibility of managing business activities and preserving all State records.

After working in and with the State Legislature for 18 years, Susan is certainly ready to fulfill the primary responsibility of presiding over the State Senate. More important than that, she is Ned Lamont's choice for his running mate. Ned deserves to have the person who he wants to work with him in order to complete the difficult job of turning our great State of Connecticut around to produce the thriving economy that we desire.

On August 14th, please vote for Susan Bysiewicz and the other convention-endorsed candidates on Row A.

Best regards,

Herb Rosenthal
