Member of Newtown Boy Scout Troop 270 will begin their annual Christmas Tree Pick-Up Fundraiser this weekend.

Residents are invited to contact Troop 270 Leader Scott Coleman at troop270@charter.net to arrange for a pick-up on the weekends of January 4-5, 11-12 or 18-19. Residents are asked for a minimum $10 donation, paid by check made out to Boy Scout Troop 270.

Scouts will pick up trees and other biodegradable decorations such as wreaths and garland. Items can be left along driveways, near a door or garage, on or near a deck, etc.

Emails should include the preferred weekend, an indication of where the tree will be, street address, and any special instructions. Mr Coleman will confirm each request.

Residents are asked to attach their checks to the tree or front door.

Donations will be used toward the annual summer trip, which in 2014 will be to Rhode Island; as well as a biking high trip adventure being planned in the area of Burlington, Vt.

Boy Scout Eddie Godino, a members of Newtown Troop 770, will be conducting a sock drive on November 22.
