Book Discussion Series For Girls And Moms

DANBURY — The Danbury Library and Connecticut Humanities Council will present “Wings to Fly: Book Voyagers Discussion” for girls in the second, third and fourth grades and their mothers or other adult.

Four discussions will be held in March and April, with each book selected because of the strong roles portrayed by the female characters as they face danger and learn to conquer their fears. Bina Williams, a youth services librarian and storyteller, will lead the discussions.

Programs will be on Thursdays, March 2, 16 and 30, and April 6. Each one-hour program will begin at 6:30.  Light snacks will be provided.

The book selection for March 2 will be Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie by Peter and Connie Roop, which tells the true story of Abbie Burgess, who was the daughter of a lighthouse keeper in Matinicus Rock, Maine, in 1853. Abbie is left in charge of the lights when a violent storm hits the coast and puts her strengths to the test.

Additional book selections are The Courage of Sarah Noble for March 16, Amber Brown Goes Fourth for March 30, and Ramona Quimby, Age 8 for April 6.

The discussions are free, but registration is required; call 797-4528 or visit the Junior Services desk.

Multiple copies of the books are available and may be requested online at DanburyLibrary.org or by calling the library.

Danbury Library is at 170 Main Street, on the corner of West Street.
