‘BELLS OF ANCIENT CHINA’ ON VIEW AT MINNEAPOLIS INSTITUTE OF ARTS

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — The Minneapolis Institute of Art presents “Sacred Sounds: The Bells Of Ancient China” on view through April 8.

One of the finest known examples of ritual bells from the Chinese Bronze Age, circa 1900–221 BC, is presented in this special exhibition.

The exhibition also features a rare set of ten clay bells, a recent addition to the MIA’s permanent collection of Chinese art. Also included is a brief soundtrack of ancient music played on the Marquis Yi ancient bronze bells, which will leave the visitor with a sense of China’s Bronze Age and the solemn ceremonial conduct that was such an important part of this ancient civilization.
