Association Of Social Workers Honors Lyddy

The National Association of Social Workers, Connecticut Chapter, honored State Representative Christopher Lyddy among others at its annual awards dinner on June 23 in New Haven.

The local state legislator, according to the association, was among notable individuals in the past year whose work exemplifies their commitment of social and economic justice and who have made a difference in the lives of others.

Rep Lyddy was selected as the association’s Legislator of the Year. First elected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 2008, Mr Lyddy represents Newtown’s 106th Assembly District. He was appointed to the Education, Human Services, and Public Health Committees and in this capacity has been supportive of issues of importance to social workers. Rep Lyddy also serves on the Department of Children and Families and HUSKY State Insurance workgroups. His tireless work on behalf of children and families, according to the association, resulted in being recognized twice as a Children’s Champion by the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance.

Rep Lyddy graduated with a BS in social work from Salve Regina and earned his MSW from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. In addition to his post in the General Assembly, Rep Lyddy works as the program director for the YES! (Youth Equipped for Success) program, serving as the program’s point person for the Court Support Services Division, probation officers, and other community-based stakeholders.
