Arts Administration Fellowship Available

HARTFORD — The Connecticut Commission on the Arts is currently accepting applications for the Elizabeth L. Mahaffey Arts Administration Fellowship. The $2,500 fellowship annually recognizes one Connecticut arts administrator of exceptional accomplishment. Funds are to be used for professional development activities.

The award was named in honor of Elizabeth Mahaffey, who, during her long career at the Commission of the Arts, made significant contributions to the professional development of arts administrators across the state.

Prospective applicants must be employed by Connecticut non-profit arts organizations or involved in ongoing cultural programs of non-arts organizations. Applicants must have at least seven years of professional arts administration experience, including three with their current organization.

Individuals must be full-time residents of the state and have lived and worked in Connecticut for a minimum of three years at the time of application.

Criteria considered in selecting the Mahaffey Fellowship recipient include the candidate’s record of accomplishment in arts administration, his or her potential for continued career achievement, and the impact the individual has had on the organization for which he or she works.

Application forms are available by telephoning the Commission on the Arts at 860-566-4770 or downloading from the agency’s Web site at www.CtArts.org/Mahaffey.htm. the deadline for receipt of application is October 15.

Previous recipients of the Mahaffey Fellowship include Dollie McLean, executive director of the Artists Collective in Hartford; Victoria Nolan, managing director of Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven; Will K. Wilkins, executive director of Real Art Ways in Hartford; and R. Rennie McQuilkin, former director of The Sunken Garden Poetry Festival in Farmington.
