In 1950s New York a lonely married woman (Blanchett) finds her live forever changed when she meets and falls in love with a young shop girl (Mara) in this film that received six Academy Award nominations. Their work in this adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's seminal novel The Price of Salt led to Oscar nods for Blanchett (Best Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role) and Mara (Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role).

Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Robert Shaw, Charles Durning & Robert Earl Jones

When a mutual friend (Jones) is killed by a mob boss (Shaw), two con men - one experienced (Newman) and one young (Redford) - team up to try to get even by pulling off an elaborate "long con," to swindle an enormous sum out of the boss so neatly that he won't even realize he has been conned. Meanwhile, a cop (Durning) is also on the trail of Redford's character, who used counterfeit cash when the lieutenant tried to shake him down. This film won seven Academy Awards in 1974, including Best Picture, and was nominated for three additional honors.
