Anthony W. "Tony" DeCarlo, 76, of Sandy Hook, died August 8, with his family by his side. He was born December 17, 1941, and was the son of the late Anthony and Thelma DeCarlo.

Mr DeCarlo, a longtime resident of Newtown, was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 38 for more than fifty years, holding numerous union positions throughout his career before eventually retiring as funds administrator in 1999. He was an avid sports enthusiast, participating and coaching in both men's and girls' softball. Mr DeCarlo was an inductee of the 1998 Newtown Sports Hall of Fame for his passion and leadership both on and off the field. He assembled a recreational softball team that would go on to achieve legendary status.

He and his dear friend of 50 years, Pete Samoskevich, served on the Newtown Building Committee and were both actively involved on several Newtown sports teams.

Mr DeCarlo's other interests included darts, bowling, and caring for his chestnut trees on the property he shared with his loving wife, Janet. On Friday nights, he loved having friends and family over the house to play darts and enjoy each others company. Mr DeCarlo was known not only for his kindness, but also for his generosity to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

His devoted wife, Janet (Santucci) DeCarlo; his loving daughter, Kimmy DeCarlo and her husband, Scott Decasper; his brothers and their wives, Michael and Barbara DeCarlo and Gregory and Rose DeCarlo; and many nieces and nephews survive him.

In addition to his parents, his first wife, Bonnie (Szaley) DeCarlo; and his brothers, John and Joseph DeCarlo, predeceased him.

Visitation will take place Sunday, August 12, from 1 to 4 pm, at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Monday, August 13, at 10 am, at Saint Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. A burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 208 South Main Street, Newtown.
