Allen was inducted into DES in ceremonies held September 24, on the campus of Saint Michael’s, Burlington, Vt., a top-ranked Phi Beta Kappa institution, where students are engaged in experiential and research learning in and out of the classroom. Allen, a senior biology major, graduated from Newtown High School.

Tyler Rudolph was one of 19 communications majors from Eastern Connecticut State University who recently traveled to London and Paris to learn about different platforms of European media and how they compare to American media. The trip coincided with the student’s European Media course taken prior to the trip, which covered all aspects of intercultural and global communication across all media platforms.

Also at Eastern Connecticut State University, biology major Anthony Lucia was one of a group of Eastern undergraduate biology students who traveled to the Gerace Research Center on San Salvador Island, the outermost island in the Bahamas, for an 11-day study tour of marine and terrestrial environments this past summer. Prior to their time in the Bahamas, the students had enrolled in an oceanic island ecology course to introduce them to the concepts needed for making critical observations on San Salvador.

Another Eastern Connecticut State University student, Marley Koschel, a psychology major from Sandy Hook, was one of six Eastern Connecticut State University students who traveled throughout Italy this past summer as part an honors course, Art in the Italian Landscape, visiting a variety of famous architectural art treasures.

Marley also received one of ECSU Foundation’s competitive scholarships in the 2011-12 academic year. The allotted scholarships total $334,000 in funds awarded through the ECSU Foundation’s annual scholarship process. Kyle Droniak ‘13 of Sandy Hook was also one of the recipients. Kyle is majoring in business administration and was awarded the ECSU Alumni Association Scholarship. Marley was awarded the Edith, John & Chandler Hicks Family Scholarship Fund.

The Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Penn., Bachelor of Arts Music Organization presented “Night on Broadway” Sunday, October 16, in the college’s Zug Recital Hall. Dan O’Connor, a first-year student from Newtown, took part in the performance.

Boston University awarded academic degrees to 1,517 students in September 2011. Among the graduates was Stephen P. Adler, who received a bachelor of arts in history.

Newtown resident Meghan Barbour is taking part in an internship this fall through the Marist College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Communication Internship Program. Barbour is a senior majoring in communication and is interning at St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. The program places students in internships and career-awareness opportunities that allow them to earn college credits.
