Newtown Middle School students faced off in the school's final round of the National Geographic Bee on Tuesday, January 12.

Jackson Hebner was named the school's champion after multiple rounds and a final championship round. It was the second year in a row Jackson earned the top placement in the competition.

To participate in the final round of the school's National Geographic Bee, students first competed in clusters before advancing through rounds to the final championship bee, which was held after school in the school's auditorium.

"I want to say congratulations to all of you," said NMS teacher Andrew San Angelo, who oversaw the bee with teachers Shari Oliver and Barry Palmer.

Students who earned placement in the final round of the bee along with Jackson were Adam Zibluk, Collin Hoffman, Jack Mahar, Michael Jewell, Hannah Cicciari, Fritz Maurath, Adam Guerin, Constantine Kyprianou, and Bobby Gaffney, who was not present for the competition on Tuesday.

The National Geographic Bee takes place in schools across the country, and each school's winning student goes on to complete a test to determine whether they will compete at the state level. Students who progress past the state level will continue on to the national level.

Questions were asked in multiple forms. For one round students were asked to look at a map to answer questions read by Ms Oliver.

Jackson and Collin made it to the final championship round.

All participants earned a trophy for participating in the school's final bee competition. Collin earned a T-shirt and trophy for coming in second, and Jackson earned T-shirt, trophy, and a medal for coming in first place.
