AAUW To Host ‘Looking To The Future For Women And Girls’

TRUMBULL — Merrilyn Decker of Monroe was recently reelected president of the American Association of University Women’s (AAUW) Bridgeport branch.

AAUW supports education and equity for women and positive societal change. Its Bridgeport branch includes women from Newtown, Monroe, Fairfield, Stratford, Easton, Shelton, Trumbull, and Bridgeport.

Ms Decker is a former editor of the Monroe Courier and former member of the Monroe Board of Education, the Masuk High School Building committee and the first Charter Commission. Before retiring, she worked professionally as a teacher and attorney. She is married to Karl Decker and is the mother of three and grandmother of seven.

The Bridgeport area branch will present “Looking to the Future for Women and Girls” at its annual president’s reception on Tuesday, September 21, at 7 pm in the Trumbull Library’s Community Room.

The program will feature Camille Patterson, a young woman from Bridgeport who received a scholarship to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C.

Camille will share her experience on the leadership experience.

Mary Keane of UNIFEM and Joan Porch, Camille’s teacher and mentor, will also participate in the presentation.

The public is welcome to attend.
