A Run for Lieutenant Governor

To the Editor:

She was 35. She was the Republican mayor of an overwhelmingly Democratic Connecticut city. She was the first woman to win the job.

She was New Britain Mayor Linda Blogoslawski.

Linda described herself as "compassionate" and someone who "could view things from a dollars and cents perspective."

I identified with that. And I still do. Linda broke barriers for women like me.

When I became New Britain's second female mayor at the age of 25, I remembered Linda's words, actions, and spirit.

I thought about Linda as I was criticized for being too young, too vibrant, too enthusiastic, too positive, and too inexperienced.

I told voters I would follow through on four goals: restoring fiscal sanity, rebuilding our infrastructure, giving our children schools to be proud of, and making our government work for the people again.

I have since led a Connecticut city from the brink of bankruptcy to financial stability.

Now that I'm running for Lieutenant Governor, those four goals remain the same.

I am confident that New Britain's success can be replicated across the state. My problem-solving and budget balancing experience can help make that a reality.

I know what it takes. I love this state.

I am 31.

I have a proven ability to connect with voters of all ages, backgrounds, and political parties.

I will fight to preserve and strengthen Connecticut's future through pro-economic growth policies and common sense cost-cutting.

You control your destiny, Connecticut Republicans. The Republican primary is on Tuesday, August 14.

My name is Erin Stewart. Think it is time for a new generation of fiscally responsible leadership at the State Capitol to turn Connecticut around? If so, then I humbly ask for your support and your vote.

Erin Stewart
