To the Editor:

I am proud to join the Newtown Democrats in endorsing Rebekah Harriman-Stites as our candidate for the 106th Assembly District.

Rebekah is not only a brave and persistent advocate for what is right for our town, but she is also an inspiration to her fellow citizens. As founder of the organization now known as Newtown Forward, Rebekah galvanized residents to get involved and to pay attention to local politics; as a participant at Newtown Forward's first meeting, she encouraged me to run for Legislative Council and to take action when I saw a need for change. Though she possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, Rebekah also has the admirable ability to act as a vocal supporter of those around her.

She is fierce and dedicated in her role as vice-chair of the Board of Education, and she approaches every task with a tireless commitment to represent Newtown residents of all ages. She is a businesswoman and a self-starter with enough experience to intimidate even the most accomplished candidates and constituents, and yet she remains remarkably approachable. With an outstanding sense of humor and the unique ability to listen sincerely, Rebekah will be a compassionate voice for our town and an enthusiastic champion of Newtown residents.

Rebekah is devoted to her town and will undoubtedly make us proud as our representative; not only because she is an accomplished and intelligent leader, but also because she is a loyal friend with a genuine desire to help and understand others. I admire her honesty and her tenacity, and I am thrilled to support her in her effort to continue to make positive change.
