A Bible Study Based On Signs Of Healing Friday, October 6

Newtown resident Linda Manganaro will be leading a Church Women United (CWU) Bible study based on “Signs of Healing” on Friday, October 6. The program, which is free and open to all, will run from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt Pleasant Road in Newtown.

Her subject matter is drawn from Scripture (Genesis 6:5-7, 7:1-5, 8:6-12 and 9:8-16) and the planning guides from Church Women United.

She will be incorporating information provided by the CWU for the November celebration of World Community Day and Human Rights. She will try to help those attending experience the movement from chaos (the flood) to order (the globe) to connection and universal covenant (the rainbow) and finally to peace (the dove).

“Standing Up for Human Rights” will be incorporated into the study and is based on Proverbs 31:8-9 that paraphrased says,   “Speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. Protect the rights of all who are helpless. Speak for them and be a righteous image. Protect the rights of the poor and needy.”

“We must first become aware of those who need help,” said Mrs Manganaro. “This quote from Proverbs challenges us to use our voices to make a difference and protect those who are helpless and poor. By doing this we are called to do more than speak – we are called to action, which may force us into uncomfortable situations.

“We have to be put in uncomfortable situation to be able to identify and relate, then identify the needs in our communities and finally form a course of action to care for people,” she added.

The Bible study is in anticipation of World Community Day, which will be Friday, November 3, when the Bethel/Newtown CWU unit will join the Greater Danbury unit for a celebration at Danbury Public Library. The Bible study and the celebration are open to the public; attendance at both is encouraged, but not necessary to enjoy one or the other.

Call Mrs Manganaro at 426-3497 for more information or to let her know you are coming. It does helps to know how many folks will be attending in order to plan for seating and arranging for study materials.

Attendees should bring a bag lunch. Desserts and beverages will be available.
