Newtown Municipal Center will host "From Photo to Plate to Print: The Etchings of DeAnn L. Prosia," June 1-30.

The building, at 3 Primrose Street within Fairfield Hills, is open during office hours, weekdays between 8 am to 4:30 pm. For this exhibition the building will have extended hours on Wednesdays until 8 pm.

There will be an opening reception Friday, June 2, from 6 to 8 pm, and an artist's talk Wednesday, June 21, from 6 to 8 pm.

Ms Prosia, who enjoys working with watercolor in addition to creating finely detailed line etchings, says she is very interested in architecture.

"I am fascinated by the designs of buildings and structures, alone or how they sit together in a group," she says in part in her artist's statement.

"Recently, I have been creating images that exist, but their locations are more unidentifiable," she said. "I am feeling a pull toward my subjects and have been focusing in on the details in hopes of having people see my work in a new way."

The artist estimates that it takes 20 hours to create her small pieces and as much as 250 hours for a large piece. It is painstaking work

"This fits my personality," she notes. "I like exacting things."

Ms Prosia was educated at Northern Illinois University and Art Institute of Chicago. Her work is in the collection of New York Public Library Print Collection, New York Historical Society Museum, Jundt Art Museum (Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash.), Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J., and Amity Art Foundation, among many others.

She has won a number of awards, including an Award of Excellence, The Jackson Richardson & Co. Inc Award, and the Award of Recognition for Best Composition for "Under the Elevated," within The American Women Artists Exhibition, Bennington (Vt.) Center for the Arts in 2016; and the Art Times Award for Graphics in the Allied Artists of America Exhibition at Salmagundi Club in New York City, also last year.

She has been listed in the Marquis Who's Who of America since 2013, and has regularly been included in one artist, juried, and invited exhibitions since 1992.
