Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Soeradj Mansaram, 27, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road and came to a stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Key Rock Road at 5:26 pm October 20. Lisa Wolff, 55, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Mazda CX-3, was traveling eastbound on Poverty Hollow Road and came to a stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Hattertown Road. Police say Wolff entered the intersection, crossing over the southbound lane and entered the northbound lane. Mansaram started to enter the intersection and the front section of his vehicle made contact with the right front section of Wolff’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Wolff’s vehicle was towed.

Mansaram was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Did Not Stop In Time

Newtown Police report Joshua Kisluk, 39, of Southington, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 7:21 pm October 20. He was traveling behind a 2019 Honda CR-V operated by Marle Luebeck, 64, of East Hampton. Police say Luebeck came to a stop for stopped traffic, and Kisluk did not stop in time. The front of Kisluk’s vehicle struck the rear of Luebeck’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Kisluk was issued a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Both Try To Enter Driveway

Newtown Police report Isabella Tourigny, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 Toyota Tundra, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 6:44 pm October 21. Robert Thompson, 68, of Shelton, operating a 2021 Audi Q5, was on Church Hill Road attempting to make a left turn into the driveway of 66 Church Hill Road. Police say Tourigny also tried to make a left turn into the same driveway, and a wheel of Tourigny’s vehicle sideswiped the passenger side front bumper of Thompson’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported at the scene. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Injured After Being Rear Ended

Newtown Police report Lance Featherstone, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Honda Odyssey, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road. Bruce Gauthier, 43, of New Fairfield, operating a 2012 Volkswagen CC, was stopped on Church Hill Road waiting to turn left into a driveway. Police say the front bumper of Featherstone’s vehicle struck the rear bumper of Gauthier’s vehicle.

Featherstone was transported to Danbury Hospital on the complaint of general body pain. All other involved parties were evaluated by Newtown EMS for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Featherstone was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Malibu Hits Fusion

Newtown Police report Emily Abbott, 32, of Bridgewater, operating a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 3:04 pm October 25. She came to a stop behind a 2013 Ford Fusion operated by Catherina Gentile, 55, of Bethel, who was stopped in traffic. Police say Gentile began moving forward and then stopped again, and the front of Abbott’s vehicle struck the rear of Gentile’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Abbott was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Following Too Closely

Newtown Police report Helena Menendez, 35, of Woodbury, operating a 2013 Chevrolet Volt, was traveling northbound on Wasserman Way at 3:28 pm October 26. She was traveling behind a 2020 Hyundai Tucson operated by Danah Padula, 48, of Southbury. Police say Padula stopped for traffic prior to the intersection with Oakview Road. The front of Menendez’s vehicle struck the rear of Padula’s vehicle, causing damage to both.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Menendez was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Failure To Appear

Newtown Police performed a traffic stop on Berkshire Road near Toddy Hill Road after observing routine traffic violations at 2:44 am October 27. Subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle was not registered and the operator of the vehicle, Marquis Williams, 35, of New Haven, had an active warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court stemming from a traffic stop earlier in the year in Woodbridge.

Williams was arrested and charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and second-degree failure to appear.

He was released after posting a $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear in New Haven Court on November 10.

Collision On Mt Pleasant

Newtown Police report that Elijah Kuhn, 20, of Sandy Hook, operating a 1997 BMW 328IC, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 8:50 am October 27. He was traveling behind a 2021 Mercedez-Benz GLC 300 operated by Hannah Lee, 54, of Sandy Hook. Police say Lee stopped near the intersection with Saw Mill Road for traffic. The front of Kuhn’s vehicle struck the rear of Lee’s vehicle, causing damage to both.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Kuhn was issued a written warning for following too closely.

Both Vehicles Towed

Newtown Police report Michael Camporeale, 68, of Tom’s River, N.J., operating a 2019 Subaru Ascent, was traveling westbound on Sugar Street at 1:16 pm October 27. He was behind a 2015 Lexus NX200T operated by Santosh Pathak, 42, of Newtown, who was stopped at the intersection of Boggs Hill Road. The front of Camporeale’s vehicle struck the rear of Pathak’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Camporeale was issued an infraction for following too close.

Stop Leads To Collision

Newtown Police report Stephanie Mingo, 33, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Taho, was stopped at a stop sign facing northbound on Key Rock Road at the intersection with Sugar Street at 3:46 pm October 27. She was behind a 2021 Hyundai Ioniq operated by Kimberly Salta, 36, of Sandy Hook. Police say Salta began turning right on Sugar Street and then stopped. The front of Mingo’s vehicle struck the rear of Salta’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Mingo was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Pushed Vehicle Into Wall

Newtown Police report John Adams, 83, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, was entering the drop off area at the Newtown Transfer Station at 199 South Main Street at 12:39 pm October 29. A 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe owned by Jeffrey Montague was parked and unoccupied in the drop off area. Adams said he was approaching the drop off area and attempted to stop, but was unable. Police say the front of his vehicle made contact with the rear of Montague’s vehicle, and was pushed approximately 30 feet, causing the front of Montague’s vehicle to impact a concrete wall.

No injuries were reported. Adams’ vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.
