Cherokee Hits Ram
Newtown Police report Jim Podrazky, 34, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling northbound on Elm Drive at 5:50 pm September 21. Podrazsky came to a stop for a stop sign at the intersection with Sugar Street. Kevin Kopp, 47, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Ram Truck 1500, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street and entered the left turn only lane. Police say Podrazky started to make a left hand turn onto Sugar Street and passed through the left turn only lane, and the left front section of his vehicle struck the right front section of Kopp’s vehicle.
Podrazsky was transported to Danbury Hospital with a complaint of head pain. Both vehicles were towed.
Podrazky was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
Defective Brakes
Newtown Police report Zackary Santana, 27, of New Milford, operating a 1999 Ford F150, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road in the eastbound lane at 7 pm on September 21. Amy Habboush, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road with an uninvolved vehicle in between them. Police say Santana drove around the uninvolved vehicle on the right, and the passenger side door of his vehicle struck the guardrail. The front driver’s side door of his vehicle then struck the rear right bumper of Habboush’s vehicle.
Santana’s vehicle was towed due to brake failure. No injuries were reported.
Santana was issued a written warning for passing on the right and defective brakes.
Confused By Signs
Newtown Police report Eileen McGrath, 52, of Newtown, operating a 2004 Saturn Ion, was traveling on Sugar Street at 2:45 pm September 29. She told police that she grew confused with the direction of the roadway with the construction signs that were posted on the shoulder of the road and drove off the roadway and down a hill, before striking a tree stump.
The vehicle was towed. No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Barbara Brymer, 76, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Infiniti Qx50, was traveling eastbound on Platts Hill Road at 3:52 pm September 29. Annette Womack, 38, of Newtown, operating a 2010 Honda Fit, was traveling northbound on Brushy Hill Road. Police say Brymer began traveling straight across the intersection and the front left bumper of Womack’s vehicle struck the front right area of Brymer’s vehicle. Brymer’s vehicle then spun left off the road, traveling sideways for several feet before coming to a stop back on Platts Hill Road facing north.
No injuries were reported. Brymer’s vehicle was towed, but not due to disabling damage.
Brymer was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way in an intersection.
Hit Stopped Car
Newtown Police report Brad Tobin, 55, of Derby, operating a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, was stopped at a traffic light in the eastbound lane of Berkshire Road at the intersection with Toddy Hill Road at 6:08 pm September 29. Brenda Mclean, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Subaru Ascent, was stopped at the same traffic light, ahead of Tobin’s vehicle. Police say when the traffic light turned green, Tobin drove into the back of Mclean’s vehicle while it was still stopped.
No injuries were reported.
Tobin was issued a verbal warning for unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle.
Failed To Stop In Time
Newtown Police report Madison Hotchkiss, 21, of Oxford, operating a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 1:07 pm October 2. She was traveling behind a 2015 Honda Accord operated by Ivan Sanchez Coro, 24, of Bethel. Police say northbound traffic suddenly stopped and the front of Hotchkiss’ vehicle made contact with the rear of Sanchez Coro’s vehicle, damaging both.
No injuries were reported.
Hotchkiss was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.
Rear-Ended On Hawleyville Road
Newtown Police report Karen Hart, 55, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Lincoln MKX, was on Hawleyville Road at the intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, preparing to turn right, at 3:13 pm October 3. Hart told police that she assumed the car in front of her had turned and cleared the intersection, so while she was looking left at oncoming traffic, she moved forward and struck the rear of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler operated by Audra Russo, 49, of Sandy Hook.
No injuries were reported. Minor damage was done to both vehicles.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the police report.
