Hit Parked Car

Newtown police report Suzanne Janousek, 86, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Chrysler Sebring, was on October 5 attempting to pull into a parking space on Queen Street when her vehicle struck a 2015 Honda Pilot Touring driven by Dean O’Donnell, 51, of Fairfield.

Janousek said she was braking as she pulled into the space when her foot slipped off the brake and her vehicle struck O’Donnell’s vehicle. O’Donnell said he was sitting in the driver’s seat of his parked vehicle when Janousek’s vehicle collided with his.

No injuries were reported.

Rear Ended At High School

Newtown police report Emily Jackson, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Mazda CX-5 Touring, was behind a 2010 Honda CR-V EX operated by John Holden, 51, waiting to make a right turn out of the driveway of Newtown High School onto Berkshire Road on October 6.

Jackson told police she saw Holden’s vehicle move forward and began her turn. She said that Holden’s vehicle stopped and the front of her vehicle struck the rear of Holden’s vehicle. Holden said he moved forward to see if it was safe to turn onto the westbound travel lane of Berkshire Road when Jackson hit the rear of his vehicle.

Police observed no damage to the front of Jackson’s vehicle, and “possible minor damage” to the rear of Holden’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Jackson was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Rolled Vehicle

Newtown police report Tyler Gregory, 16, of Sandy Hook, was operating a 2001 Jeep Cherokee southbound on Berkshire Road on October 12, when his vehicle reportedly crossed the dividing line into the northbound travel lane.

Gregory’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the left and struck a rock embankment, before re-entering the roadway in the northbound lane of travel. Gregory’s vehicle then rolled over onto the roof and slid approximately 20 yards.

Gregory was able to exit the vehicle and was transported to Danbury Hospital for minor injuries. The vehicle was towed by Modzeleski’s Towing.

Rear Ended At Stoplight

Newtown police report Monique Hellwinkle, 58, of Woodbury, operating a 2021 Toyota Rav4 XLE, was traveling northbound on South Main Street on October 14 behind a 2004 Ford F150 operated by Angel Sinche-Sanchez, 51, of Danbury.

Sinche-Sanchez’s vehicle stopped for traffic and the front of Hellwinkle’s vehicle made contact with the rear of Sinche-Sanchez’s vehicle, causing damage to both. No injuries were reported.

Hellwinkle was issued a written warning for following too closely causing a motor vehicle accident.

Failure To Maintain Reasonable Distance

Newtown police report Robert Jensen, 25, of Rochelle, N.Y., operating a 2006 GMC Sierra, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road on October 14, behind a 2017 Honda CR-V EX operated by Alicia Maloney, 25, of Sandy Hook. Both vehicles came to a stop and the front of Jensen’s vehicle struck the rear of Maloney’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Jensen was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a reasonable distance.

Rear-Ended At Red Light

Newtown police report Edras Segura-Vega, 34, of Stamford, operating a 2015 Ram 1500 SLT, was stopped for traffic at a red light southbound, in the straight/right turn lane of South Main Street at the intersection with Glover Avenue on October 16, behind a 2019 Audi A5G operated by Aiden Cardos, 31, of Southport. Segura-Vega’s vehicle began to travel straight, and the front end of his vehicle struck the rear end of Cardos’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Segura-Vega was given a verbal warning for failure to maintain a reasonable distance.

Mirrors Struck

Newtown police report Kenneth Buckley, 55, of Southbury, operating a 2004 Ford E350 Super Duty, was traveling northbound on Old Green Road on October 17. Christopher Swift, 76, of Sioux Falls, S.D., operating a 2021 GMC SRA, was traveling southbound on Old Green Road. The driver’s side mirror of Buckley’s vehicle and the driver’s side mirror of Swift’s vehicle collided while the vehicles passed each other. Buckley’s vehicle sustained damage to the driver’s side mirror. Swift’s vehicle suffered no damage.

No injuries were reported.

Lost Motorcycle

Newtown police report at approximately 6:35 am October 19, officers were dispatched to the area of 109 Berkshire Road for a report of a possible motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle.

Upon arrival, police found a red and black Kawasaki LTD 750 that appeared to have fallen off of a truck or trailer.
