Jr NAA Co-Chair Announces 2020 National Gun Violence Prevention Summer Music Series
The co-chair of Jr Newtown Action Alliance (Jr NAA) has announced the local student group will be joining others to co-host a national music series this summer.
Natalie Barden, whose brother Daniel was one of the children killed on 12/14, said via e-mail and through a Facebook post that Jr NAA and “many partners” will host the 2020 National Gun Violence Prevention Summer Music Series
The biweekly virtual music is being organized during the pandemic to bring together students and youth from all communities, said Barden, who co-chaired the Newtown High School-based student club with Danielle Johnson.
“We will use music as a vehicle for young people to share stories related to gun violence prevention, build a diverse community, heal, and unite around an action plan to #EndGunViolence together in America,” Barden wrote.
The series will open Thursday, June 18, from 7 to 8 pm, with Barden and other student performers sharing the virtual stage.
Registration is requested, and can be done through the group’s Facebook page, facebook.com/jrnewtownaction.
Young musical artists interested in performing on future dates are invited to register. Visit the group’s Facebook page and then click on Events for details including the registration form.
Subsequent performances are scheduled for July 2, July 16, July 30, and August 13.
