Mad Hatters Party II Being Planned For Booth Library Benefit
BETHEL — The Board of Trustees of C.H. Booth Library is planning Mad Hatters II, a fundraiser to benefit C.H. Booth Library on Main Street.
The event will be held at Michael’s at the Grove, 42 Vail Road in Bethel, on Friday, May 31, from 6:30 to 10 pm. The gala will feature a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres, live music, a plated dinner, and opportunities to bid on prizes through live and silent auctions.
Tickets are $100, and all proceeds of the event will benefit C.H. Booth Library.
Event Co-Chair Donna Rahtelli, who is also vice president of the library’s Board of Trustees, pointed out that Mad Hatters II will be “the main springtime fundraiser for the library, which provides such a wide and deep range of services to Newtown.”
Christene Freedman, chair of the library’s Development Committee, said, “There’s something for everybody at the C.H. Booth Library. From teaching children and young families all about literacy to providing sophisticated grant databases for the public and great WiFi for entrepreneurs and students, the library is a great deal.”
Amy Dent, president of the library’s Board of Trustees, said, “The committee has really put in a lot of work to make sure that this is a special evening for attendees. It’s a great effort, and it gives the chance for the community to really support its public library.”
Library Director Douglas Lord is amazed, he said recently, at the number of Newtown businesses and individuals that have contributed items for the auctions.
“Attendees have the chance to bid on something really special and also do something great for the library,” he said. “It’s money that goes directly back into the community in the form of educational programs, books, and electronic content.”
Among the items are a golf foursome at Ridgewood Country Club, including lunch; four box seats for a New York Yankees game; a $2,000 gift certificate to Quality Gem; a weeping willow tree; a catered dinner for eight at The Dana-Holcombe House, catered by Great Seasons Catering; a painting by local artist Michelle Rosenthal; and Taste of Newtown, a collection of gift certificates for local restaurants.
Tickets can be purchased at the library or online at chboothlibrary.org/madhatters.
The Cyrenius H. Booth Library was a gift of Newtown benefactress Mary Elizabeth Hawley. It was named after her maternal grandfather.
In addition to books, streaming media, and databases, the library provides areas for meetings as well as displays of art and historical artifacts of Newtown. The library meets community needs by connecting, convening, partnering, and serving as community hub and as a place to learn with one another with a mission to promote the joy of lifelong learning, stimulate curiosity, support the exchange of ideas, and provide a welcoming gathering place for our community.
