Ilidio Amorim

Ilidio Lopes Amorim, 93, of Hamden, loving husband of 66 years to Belmira Leite Amorim, died September 19, at Vitas Hospice in St Mary's Hospital, Waterbury. He was born on November 26, 1923, in Vilarelho de Raia, Chaves, Portugal, son of the late Joao and Maria dos Anjos Calvao Amorim.

Along with his wife Belmira, his daughters and their husbands, Grace and John Sansonetti of Newtown, Maria and Sean Hanley of Wallingford, and Bela and Manny Duque of Wallingford; his sister, Altina Calvao of New Bedford, Mass.; his grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Chris Kelly, Melissa and her husband Paul Stensland, Juliana Sansonetti, and Luke Sansonetti; his four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews survive him.

Besides his parents, his sisters, Aurinda Sanches, Teresa Amorim, and Candida Amorim, predeceased him.

Mr Amorim immigrated from Portugal to Brazil, where he worked in retail management until 1966. He then immigrated to the United States, where he worked at H.B. Ives for 22 years until his retirement in 1988.

He loved gardening, cheering for the Benfica and Chaves soccer teams, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Friends are invited to visit with Mr Amorim's family from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, September 22, in Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 am on Saturday, September 23, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr Amorim's memory may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or stjude.org.
