Todd Ingersoll, president of Ingersoll Automotive, carried a number of boxes in with him to Newtown High School on Wednesday, December 9.

For the fourth year in a row, Ingersoll Automotive is giving new laptops to local schools Newtown, Bethel, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Watertown, Pomperaug, and Pawling, N.Y. In total, Mr Ingersoll said, 80 laptops are being delivered to high schools to be used by students who do not have access to technology at home.

Each of the laptops, Mr Ingersoll said, can be assigned to a student for the school year through the school. NHS received ten laptops on December 9. Over the last fours Mr Ingersoll said the program has given 300 laptops to local schools, and Newtown has received ten laptops each of its participating years, totaling 40 laptops.

The giveaway began when Ingersoll Auto donated two laptops to a post-prom party at Bethel High School. At the party, one student who won the laptop had received an appointment to West Point and already had a computer. That student gave the new laptop to a friend who did not have one at home. The gift changed that student’s life. The story inspired Mr Ingersoll, who has three children of his own, to make technology donations to the schools.

Ingersoll Automotive comprises three retail facilities — Ingersoll Auto of Danbury, Buick GMC of Watertown, and Ingersoll Auto of Pawling.

NHS Principal Lorrie Rodrigue accepted the laptops for her school on December 9.

Each of the donated laptops have the Ingersoll Automotive logo on them along with inspirational words and phrases, like “believe in yourself,” “make a difference,” “keep up the good work,” and “be kind.”
