Gas Prices Creeping Up
HARTFORD â Gasoline prices in Connecticut have begun creeping up again after a steady decline this fall, according to AAA.
A gallon of self-serve regular sold for an average price of $2.23 cents Tuesday, down from $2.28 a month ago, AAA reported.
But the downward trend that began after prices reached a peak of $3.19 in September has ended, said Jim MacPherson, a AAA spokesman.
âIt actually started to switch not quite a week ago, we began to see prices first level off and stop the steady decline,â he said. âItâs gone up 2.5 cents in the last 24 hours.â
Prices had been falling in response to the reopening of some Gulf Coast refineries and pipelines following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, MacPherson said.
He said the downward trend ended as oil markets reacted to the onset of cold weather.
