On Saturday, October 19, from 10 am to 1:30 pm, Newtown Lions Club will hold The Tenth Annual Great Pumpkin Race, behind Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.

Rain date is Saturday, October 26; the event will begin at 1 if the rain date is needed.

The annual event features pumpkin races and pumpkin decorating contests, crafts for children, floral arrangements for purchase, and more. Children will also be invited to once again search for prizes among piles of hay in the Treasure Chest.

The Town and Country Garden Club will be setting up a table at the Great Pumpkin Race, where members will again offer free pumpkin decorating crafts for children. Young guests were thrilled last year to be taking home their own decorated pumpkins. The Garden Club will also have seasonal flower arrangements for sale.

Food, music, and other entertainment will also be part of the event. In addition, the grand prize winner of the Newtown Lions Club Annual Mustang Raffle will be determined that afternoon.

Pumpkin races are held for three age groups: 8 and under, 9-12, and 13 and over.

Pumpkins must have four wheels and two axles, both of which must pass through the pumpkin.

Decorated pumpkin contests are held for the same three age groups, with prizes awarded for Scariest, Funniest, and Best Decorated pumpkins.

Cost is $5 per entry for the decorating and race contests. Rain date is Sunday, October 20, beginning at 1 pm.

Saturday will also mark the final opportunity to purchase tickets for this year’s Newtown Lions Club Mustang Raffle. This year’s vehicle is a 1966 Mustang convertible, light blue with a white top, blue and white interior, a 289 V 8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes.

Tickets are $10 each. The drawing will be on Saturday at 1 pm, in front of Edmond Town Hall. All proceeds benefit charities supported by Newtown Lions Club.

Nate Rivera’s entry was voted Scariest Pumpkin for its split open pumpkin head that revealed a skull inside during last year’s Great Pumpkin Race.
