DeRoo  Named Runner Of Week

Newtown’s Elise DeRoo, a sophomore at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, was named the Patriot League Female Runner of the Week on September 9, following her performance at the Harry Lang Invitational.

DeRoos is a former standout runner at Newtown High School.

This is the first cross-country weekly award this season for the Raiders.

DeRoo ran a personal-best and nearly a school-record time of 16:09 in the 4200-meter race. She won the individual title, just one second behind the course record posted by teammate junior Stacey Marion, of West Simsbury, in 2007.

Colgate took three of the top ten spots and seven of the top 17 on its way to scoring 44 points for second place.
