Police Traffic Law Enforcement Project Continues

Police Lieutenant George Sinko reports that the police department’s ongoing project to more strictly enforce traffic laws concerning speeding, aggressive driving, and distracted driving was conducted on two days last week.

Police ran the enforcement program on Monday, April 7, and on Thursday, April 10.

Police provided the enforcement on April 7 from 6 to 8 am on Queen Street, Main Street, and Elm Drive.

On Queen Street, police stopped one driver on a charge of traveling unreasonably fast. Police also arrested that driver on charges of driving under suspension, failure to return a suspended license, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, Lt Sinko said.

Also, traffic enforcement on Main Street and Elm Drive resulted in two infractions on charges of traveling unreasonably fast.

From 4 to 8 pm that day, police provided enforcement on Key Rock Road, Hattertown Road, and Poverty Hollow Road. Infractions on charges of traveling unreasonably fast were issued to two drivers on Key Rock Road, to one motorist on Hattertown Road, and to three drivers on Poverty Hollow Road.

On April 10, the enforcement project ran from 4 to 6 pm, focusing on Hanover Road and Glen Road.

Violations included one infraction for traveling too fast, one infraction for using a handheld mobile telephone while driving, and one equipment violation warning for failure to have functioning headlamps.

More traffic enforcement is planned in the coming weeks, according to Lt Sinko. The enforcement project follows residents’ requests for police to more strictly enforce traffic laws.
