The Newtown High School Winter Guard program kicked off its Winter 2016 season February 6 with two exhibition appearances, first at Brookfield High School in the afternoon, followed by an exhibition at Masuk High School in Monroe later that evening.

This year's Winter Guard has 38 members, in fifth through twelfth grade, participating across three teams, juniors, junior varsity, and varsity.

On February 13 the teams participated in their first competitions with the juniors and junior varsity teams competing at Naugatuck High School while the varsity team traveled to Salem, Mass., for a Regional Competition. The juniors placed first in their division while the junior varsity team placed second. At Regionals, the varsity team competed in semifinals and then finals and placed fifth in its division.

On February 20 the teams traveled together to Bethel High School for their next competition, with the juniors again finishing first, and the junior varsity and varsity teams both placing second in their divisions.

The varsity team is nationally ranked, competes in the Scholastic Open division and is coached by Bob Findley, Janos Pergely, Tory Whittington, Conor Kovatch, and Derion Loman. The Winter Guard program is under the direction of Bob Findley and Kurt Eckhardt.
